A Samsung veteran with over three decades of experience, Mr. Sangho Jo most recently led Samsung Electronics Europe and returned to the Southeast Asia & Oceania region
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the appointment of Mr. Sangho Jo as President and CEO of Southeast Asia & Oceania.
A proven Samsung leader with over three decades of experience across business groups and geographies, Mr. Jo will steer the strategic growth directions of Samsung Electronics in Southeast Asia & Oceania.
Markets in Southeast Asia & Oceania are integral to Samsung Electronics’ long-term growth plans, with the region poised to sustain its rapid economic growth into the next decade, built on the digital ambitions of its cities, industries and communities. Mr. Jo will guide the business towards cementing its industry leadership and seizing long-term growth opportunities in this region by forging partnerships, creating operational excellence, and ultimately, building brand trust amongst consumers and enterprises.
He was most recently appointed President and CEO for Samsung Electronics in Europe, where he led the business to achieve sustainable commercial growth and brand favorability in 2020. In the past decade, Mr. Jo has served as President in the following markets: Samsung Electronics Germany (2019), United Kingdom (2015 – 2017), Sweden (2012 – 2014), Austria (2011), Baltic countries (2009 – 2010), and also served as Head of Visual Display business for Samsung Europe based in South Korea (2017 – 2018).
Mr. Jo is not new to the Southeast Asia & Oceania region, having worked in Samsung Electronics Singapore (1997), Vietnam (1998 – 2000) and Malaysia (2007 – 2008). Olaf May, Vice President IT & Mobile Communication, heads the operational business in the IT & Mobile Communication division. The storage business is with Frank Kalisch, Director Storage Solutions.

Sangho Jo started his career at Samsung Electronics in 1989 and can therefore look back on almost 30 years in the company. He was able to acquire extensive knowledge in the areas of international business management and regional product marketing in Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia and Korea. He also gained experience in the areas of human resources and corporate auditing. From 2014 to 2017, Jo was President and CEO of Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland. In this role, he mainly created cross-product and operational synergies. Sangho Jo was previously President of Samsung Electronics Nordic, President Samsung Electronics Austria and President Samsung Electronics Baltics. Sangho Jo received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Kyung Hee University in Korea.
Willem Wookhan Kim has been President of Samsung Electronics Switzerland GmbH since May 2017, where he was in charge of the entertainment electronics and IT & mobile communication areas. He has over 25 years of experience in financial management, international product sales and marketing. His strengths lie in long-term, strategic planning. Before that, Willem Kim was Senior Business Director of the TV and AV division of Samsung Electronics Germany, where he successfully managed sales, marketing and operations. He also worked in the Netherlands as Business Director for the sale and marketing of TV sets in the Benelux countries. Willem Kim holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
Martin Börner, Deputy President Samsung Electronics GmbH, is interrupting his work at Samsung and handing over his duties to the new management to take a two-year sabbatical. Simon Sung, previously President Samsung Electronics GmbH, is now responsible for business in the CIS region as Head of CIS.
There are also personnel changes on the administrative side. Vice President Shangyoung Kang will take over as CFO of Jeong-Jin Park, who in turn will be CFO of Samsung Electronics in China.
