When Medication Isn’t Enough: Understanding Resistant Hypertension

As conversations around hypertension continue to grow, health experts are calling for a shift from reactive management to more proactive care

Hypertension remains one of the leading health concerns in the Philippines. Despite wider access to medication, a growing number of Filipinos are still unable to keep their blood pressure under control, raising concerns among health experts about a more complex and under-recognized stage of hypertension.

With one in three adults, or an estimated 16.8 million Filipinos, living with high blood pressure, the gap between treatment and sustained control is becoming more apparent. Health experts are encouraging more consistent blood pressure monitoring and regular reassessment of treatment plans, particularly for patients who continue to experience elevated blood pressure despite medication. Gaps in awareness and follow-up care can delay the identification of patients who may require further evaluation, increasing their risk of long-term complications.

FedEx Simplifies U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission e-filing for APAC Businesses as New Requirements Take Effect

Six in ten APAC exporters are calling for centralized compliance guidance and digital documentation tools to keep U.S.-bound consumer product shipments moving

Federal Express Corporation, one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, is strengthening its support for Asia Pacific businesses, including the Philippines, as they prepare for the upcoming mandatory U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) e-filing requirements, set to take effect on July 8, 2026.

The new requirement mandates all U.S. importers of CPSC-regulated products to e-file the data elements needed for clearance at the time of entry into the United States. This is aimed at improving safety oversight and compliance transparency. U.S. importers of CPSC-regulated products must include the full CPSC PGA message set for each product imported. To streamline the process, importers may pre-file information about the product in CPSC’s Product Registry, which allows importers to transmit an abbreviated CPSC message set.  For Philippine exporters, this marks a significant shift in when that product information is made available, prior to shipment.

The end of “Tiis Ganda”?

Why more young women should refuse to normalize period pain

“Tiis ganda” has long been worn like a badge of honor—an everyday test of endurance where women are expected to look composed, stay productive, and push through discomfort as if it’s part of the job description. From long days at school or work to back-to-back responsibilities, it’s a quiet culture of kaya pa, even when the body is clearly asking for a pause.

But nowhere does this expectation feel more real than during menstruation. Period pain becomes another layer of “tiis”—the kind that can turn reviewing for an exam, finishing a presentation, or even simply getting out of bed into a full-on challenge.

Yet despite how common it is, menstrual pain is still often brushed off as something to simply endure. Somewhere along the way, women were made to believe that suffering in silence is just part of being capable and productive. But when did pain become part of the honor roll checklist?

mWell Addresses the Growing Need for Accessible Mental Health Care for Filipinos

An all-in-one telehealth platform empowering Filipinos to care for their mind and body at every stage of their wellness journey

mWell, the Philippines' fully integrated digital healthcare platform by Metro Pacific Health Tech Corporation, gives voice to a truth many Filipinos know but rarely say out loud: sometimes, the happiest-looking person in the room is fighting the hardest battle alone.

Mental health stigma in the Philippines remains a significant barrier to care. Rooted in cultural expectations of resilience, mental health struggles are too often misread as weakness, pushing individuals to suffer quietly rather than seek the help they deserve. Deep-seated values like hiya and pakikisama compound the silence, as many fear bringing embarrassment to themselves or their families by admitting they are not okay. In the workplace, the stakes feel even higher: about 75% of Filipinos believe that disclosing mental health concerns compromises their professional opportunities, the highest rate among ASEAN countries, according to the International Labor Organization. And for many, the cost of professional mental health support remains the final barrier.
