In partnership with non-governmental organization (NGO) World Vision Philippines, who is accredited and trained in the administration of Purifier of Water, P&G Philippines was able to help over 1,000 families in the CARAGA Region, particularly in the municipality of Sison in Surigao del Norte.
“The damage brought upon by Typhoon Odette to our countrymen in Visayas and Mindanao greatly affected access to basic necessities such as clean water, food, and hygiene. We immediately activated pre-positioned P&G Purifier of Water packets to provide access to clean, safe drinking water to communities in Sison, Surigao del Norte”, said Anna Legarda Locsin, P&G Philippines Communications Director.
Invented by P&G scientists in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, P&G’s Purifier of Water is a portable, highly effective, low-cost packet of powder that can transform dirty water to clean, drinkable water in only 30 minutes with the use of a bucket, a spoon, and a cloth. Through a diverse network of more than 150 partners, P&G’s Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program has provided more than 19 billion liters of clean water to people in 93 countries around the world. These organizations provide packets to rural areas where communities lack access to clean, safe drinking water, and in times of natural disasters or other emergencies.Aside from efforts to provide clean drinking water, P&G Philippines also provided food, hygiene products, and P&G-produced face masks over the holidays to aid Typhoon Odette-stricken areas, especially their affected employees, partners, and communities. This was made possible in partnership with Manila Water Foundation, the Philippine Coast Guard, ABS-CBN Foundation and the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
