As part of their mission to help people live better lives, Santé conducts a classroom rebuilding project in Silad, Palawan
Education is a child's strongest foundation. It builds their character, knowledge, and their overall holistic development. However, education continues to be a privilege for some.
According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), only half of the children ranging from 3 to 4 years old are enrolled in daycare and only 78 percent complete primary education. Besides not having enough financial resources to support a child's education, one reason that causes this is that some children who live in far-flung areas have poor facilities and infrastructure to sustain one.
This is the current situation in Silad, a remote island in Palawan, wherein over 100 children cannot even complete their basic education. These students need better learning spaces that give them an equal opportunity to learn, grow, and fulfill their potential, which Santé, a premier natural health and wellness product and service provider, recognizes. As part of their commitment to helping people live better lives, they made health go the extra mile so education can thrive.
The journey towards rebuilding education and hope. The initiative all started with Pastor Philip Le Roux, a member of the Santé Barley Tri-Team. As a missionary, he helped the small island with different initiatives and projects and improved their living conditions and welfare through the years. However, it has long been a desire of his to see Silad Elementary School get fixed to serve the community.
"The growing number of families in Silad means more children are not getting access to adequate education. The Silad Elementary School is only made up of bamboo and old wood, which cannot withstand a typhoon-prone area. In fact, every time a small typhoon hits the area, the school has to be rebuilt," Philip shared.
The buildings are overcrowded and unsafe, and different grades share one classroom. Their school is falling apart, pushing the children not to continue their studies.
"I knew I had to do something, but even I can only do so much. That is when I reached out to Santé and Joey Marcelo himself because I know it is part of their mission to help Filipinos live better lives," Philip added.
Going the extra mile with Santé Daily C. When Joey Marcelo, chief executive officer of Santé, heard about the unfortunate condition of Silad, he knew he had to help. "Like what Philip mentioned, it is part of our mission to help people live better lives, and this project is an opportunity for the Santé family to create and start change," Marcelo reiterated.
For Santé, their situation is a story of hope. They wanted to be part of the reason why these students could continue their dreams. And this is where the "Go the Extra Mile with Santé Daily-C 750mg” started.
"Santé takes pride in its line of products, but we chose to do this with our Santé Daily-C 750mg that provides additional Vitamin C. Its extra protection mirrors what we aim to show in this campaign, which is how we can go above and beyond on helping and sharing to less fortunate people," Marcelo shared.
A portion of the sales made between June 15 to July 15 of the Santé Daily-C 750mg will be donated to Silad Elementary School to help replace the roof with corrugated iron and the walls with cement and other durable materials that can withstand typhoons.
"Beyond making Filipinos healthier, I am glad Santé can help nurture the kids of tomorrow. Without them, these kids will probably never have the chance to get a proper and conducive education—one that they deserve. The children of Silad, and everyone in the world, deserve to live more and do more," Marcelo added.
