The online talk-show Real Talk with Dok on Facebook next tackles the urgent issue of the Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV).
Despite recent reports online and in social media, the show seeks to assure the public that there has been no alarming increase in the incidence of Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV) cases in the Philippines and worldwide.
According to Dr. Endymion Tan, Infectious Disease Specialist and Chairman of the Infection Control Committee of the MetroMed Hospitals, there has been no observed surge in respiratory diseases in the country.
“While the metapneumovirus (hMPV) can cause respiratory symptoms like cough, fever, and congestion, most cases observed in the country are mild,” Dr Tan explained. “Cases that may lead to severe bronchitis or pneumonia, primarily affect infants, elderly and those with weakened immune systems and comorbidities,” he added.
Dr. Tan however advises the public to follow these preparedness measures:
- Practice hand hygiene. Use alcohol-based sanitizers or wash your hands with soap.
- Cover the mouth when coughing or sneezing and stay at home when sick.
- Avoid crowded areas and opt for well-ventilated spaces.
- Maintain physical distance whenever possible.
Real Talk with Dok on the Bell-Kenz Pharma Facebook page regularly tackles important and timely health issues, with respected medical practitioners as guests. The show aims to discuss timely health topics of importance to Filipinos.
