Let's Have A Healthy Happy Holiday!

It is indeed the season for many things. Aside from gifts and celebrations, we are also more prone to sickness and diseases that comes along with the activities that we do during these times. We (usually or most likely) cannot avoid eating too much or engaging in stressful moments which could lead to sickness and totally ruining the cheers and festivties.

Now we asked a health expert Doc Pao to help us understand the risks and what we can do to prevent them.

1.      With the advent of new sicknesses sprouting left and right, how do you feel your field of study can help in alleviating or avoiding these sicknesses?

Diseases are caused not by genetic predisposition alone but by the imbalance in health brought about by excess toxins and nutritional deficiencies that one has, given by their lifestyle and environmental factors.  Prevention and early detection of these imbalances without any invasive procedures can help build a cascade of well being starting with one person to a family to a community all the way to a country.  Usually when symptoms manifest the diseases have already taken a toll. Hence for chronic and degenerative diseases best practices of medical systems can be applied but for acute once conventional medicine can work well with integrative therapies that allow people to feel like people when they are treated.  We just got to preserve the humanity of each person from early detection through treatment proper and post treatment covering all aspects of life touching the areas of the a Body, Mind and Soul.  Going to the roots would help alleviate people from suffering. When symptoms manifest, disease would have already progressed by then. Why not prepare the bodies protection and defence mechanism to be resilient to internal and external threats.

Signs of a Healthy Pet

A balanced diet, regular exercise, proper grooming and regular check-ups to the vet are essential in keeping your pet healthy. However, pets can only express themselves through barks, meows and movements, so you may not know if your furry friend is feeling any pain or discomfort. Most of the time, the irregularities are very subtle. It takes a sharp eye to identify the symptoms of pet ailments.

Pet Food Institute and the Veterinary Practitioners Association of the Philippines, through its Well Fed, Well Nurtured campaign, impart a head-to-toe checklist for pet owners to make sure that little Fido and Fluffy are in tip-top condition.

Eyes

Healthy cats have clear and bright eyes. Their pupil shape varies from the light reflecting on them. One of the unique characteristics of a cat is the ability to see through the dark with glowing eyes. Any irregularities like redness or mucus excretion can mean infection or nutrient deficiency. If the cat squints or blinks with one eye, it could indicate injuries like a scratch, or a foreign matter may be stuck in the eye area.

Clean air – the key to better health in 2016

Philips air-cleansing technologies can keep your family healthy all-year round

While New Year’s Day came with equal parts joy and hopeful anticipation, the annual barrage of fireworks also brought in a slew of hazards that are harmful to health.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) expressed concern at spikes in Metro Manila’s air pollution during the region's New Year’s Eve celebrations. Just before 1am of January 1, 2015, a real-time monitoring station in one of Metro Manila’s cities recorded the highest level of PM10 pollutants at 2,000 micrograms per normal cubic meter (mcg/Ncm). The normal ambient guideline value of PM10 is 60mcg/Ncm, according to the DENR.

REDUCIN: Welcoming The Golden Years, Golden.

Aging is frequently the reason cited as to why people gain weight and have their body shape deteriorate. This is certainly true. Physically, when we age, our metabolism slows down. Behaviorally, our habits change as well. We become busier with various aspects in life - work, family and friends. How can we fit in time to work on ourselves?

Is that a valid excuse? No. Living, just like any activity, has to be managed. Prioritization must be embedded in making life choices. Reduce time spent on less important activities. After all, what could be more important than staying healthy to gain more time living?
